I know alot of people don’t like God or believe in Him, but have you truly investigated who He is?

I grew up in a very traditional Church and as a kid I struggled to see who God was through the religion and tradition. Don’t get me wrong, the people in this church were amazing people, loving and caring but I always felt I needed to find God in my own way. One day when I was 13 years old I literally dared God to make himself real to me. I had no idea what I meant by that, I certainly didn’t think I was going to hear an actual voice or a guy walking up to me in the street and say, Hi, I am Jesus, want to have a coffee. I did need to know, however that the Jesus I read about was actually there before I committed. A few weeks went by and my little sunday study group met and we found we had aquired a new teacher. This was a guy who I had never met but considered a bit of a legend. He had played county cricket in England and as a sport’s nut, I found myself considering well if I guy this cool could find God, surely He can show me how.

This guy, who I will not name as I don’t want to embarrass him, week after week started to explain his passion and knowledge of Jesus through the Bible and week after week I went home realising for the first time, that it was all making sense to me. I questioned and I questioned, and every time my leader would answer from the Bible and it made complete sense. One day I ran out of reason why I shouldn’t follow God, and I allowed Jesus into my life.

Maybe you have a similar story, maybe yours in different, maybe you are still asking God to make himself real to you. Jesus made himself real to me through His Word the Bible but also by sending someone else to speak about Him in a way I could understand. If you don’t know Jesus, maybe you know someone that does, I urge you to ask them about Him.

Are you a person that says you don’t believe in Jesus or don’t want anything to do with Him, but have never really investigated who He actually is. You can’t be rescued from your life of sin and eventual death by just listening to stories about Jesus from someone else, you can’t have a relationship with Jesus by living it through someone else that has it, but you can choose to believe in Jesus who has never and will never stop believing in you.

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6

What must I do to be saved and have a relationship with Jesus I hear you ask?

  1. Hear
How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?

Romans 10:14

Allow people in y0ur life to share who Jesus is and start reading the Bible, where is the risk? If you read it and truly allow the words to teach you and nothing happens, what have you lost? But I guarantee you will meet God when you read His words in the Bible.

2.  Believe

For God so loved the world that he gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

John 3:16

Believing that Jesus is alive or was a good guy is not enough. The book of James says that even the demons believe in Jesus and shudder, after all God created them as angels first. To believe means you understand and trust that all the things the Bible says about Jesus is true. He did die for our sins, He did rise again and defeat death and He will return for His followers one day.  To believe means you understand that He needs to be the Lord or leader of your life and you welcome Him in.

if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

Romans 10:8

3.  Repent

Romans 3:23 tells us that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God
To repent means we literally do a reverse turn, we turn back to God and away from those things that keep us from having a relationship with Him. We ask forgiveness for turning our backs on Him and going our own way, which is what essentially sin is and we ask Him to come into our lives and start to repair the damage we have caused by our sin.

4.  Submit & Follow

John 15 speaks of the kind of relationship Jesus desires, He desires freedom for us, to have a friendship but we also need to remember that this is a privilege that He gives, not a right that we naturally possess. He wants us to bear fruit in our lives, in other words He wants us to have an abundant life (John 10:10) but the only way to do this is by giving Him back the reigns.

Jesus, when choosing His disciples said “Come follow me…” that is what He wants from you, for you to stop living the life He has given you, your way, and start to follow in His footsteps, live the way He has always planned it.

God Bless
